日本は春の季節ですね！
It’s spring season in Japan!
春と言えば、日本では桜の花が咲いており、満開なので、みんな「お花見」を楽しんでおります。
Speaking of spring, Japanese people enjoy ”ohanami” because Cherry blossom are in full bloom in Japan.
「お花見」とは、満開の桜の木の近くで桜を観賞しながら、食事を楽しむ日本の文化です。
”Ohanami”is the Japanese culture that Japanese people enjoy to have lunch while viewing cherry blossoms by trees of cherry.
「お花見」の歴史をお話するために、奈良時代まで遡ります。
I talk about the history of ”ohanami”to go back the Nara period.
なんと奈良時代では、「曲水の宴」という中国由来の行事が、当時の宮中におけるお花見行事があったのですが、
Surprisingly, there was a cherry blossom viewing event that the event of Chinese origin ”feast of kyokusui” in the imperial court at that time.
その際には、梅や桃の花などが用いられていたそうです。
However, it seems that ancestors in the Nara period used flowers of plums or peaches at that time.
お花見と言えば桜となったのは、平安時代以降です。
”Ohanami” have become synonymous with cherry blossom since the Heian period.
遣唐使が停止された国内では、源氏物語や枕草子などの日本独自の文化が発展していきました。
Japan’s unique culture such as The Tale of Genji has developed in Japan where envoys to the Tang Dynasty were suspended.
その流れで、宮中のお花見に用いられる花は、中国由来の梅や桃だけでなく、
In the flow, it is thought that flowers used for ”ohanami”in the imperial court not only the Chinese origin of plums or peaches
日本由来の桜が加わったのだと考えられています。
but also Japan origin of cherry blossoms.
江戸時代中期以降、「国学」という学問が広がり、「日本に昔から存在するものこそが至上」という考えの象徴とされたのが、桜でした。
Cherry blossoms have been used as a symbol of the idea that ”Things have existed in Japan since ancient times is supreme” to spread ”natinal studies” since the middle Edo period .
そして、明治時代になると、桜がさらに特別な存在として認識されるようになりました。
And in the Meiji period, cherry blossoms came to be recognized as an even more special existence.
歴史を知ると、桜を改めて見るときに、一層、感慨深くなります。
After knowing the history, I will be deeply moved when I view cherry blossoms again.
